How to read your chart
A three-step orientation
A BaZi chart is a system. The useful question is not whether one character is “good” or “bad,” but how its role changes in relation to the rest of the chart.
The Heavenly Stem of your Day Pillar is the chart’s reference point: the “you” against which every other stem is compared. Its element and polarity give you a first piece of vocabulary, not a complete personality label. The surrounding season, elements and relationships show whether that quality is supported, redirected or placed under pressure.
Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water describe kinds of movement and relationship. The bars count visible stems and main branch elements. A larger share is not automatically better, and a small share is not automatically missing. Season, hidden stems and interactions belong to a deeper assessment.
Da Yun divides life into roughly ten-year periods. Each period adds another stem and branch around the natal chart. The timeline does not promise events; it describes changing context. Exact starts depend on the calculation rules and complete birth information.
The system behind the chart
BaZi (八字) means “Eight Characters.” It maps a birth moment into four pairs: the Year, Month, Day and Hour Pillars. Each pair combines a Heavenly Stem with an Earthly Branch. Together they form the eight characters that give the system its name.
The calculation follows the traditional solar calendar rather than dividing the modern calendar into equal months. Seasonal boundaries, historical time zone and birthplace can therefore matter. The ten Heavenly Stems express the Five Elements in Yin and Yang forms, while the twelve Earthly Branches carry seasonal and cyclical information.
The pillars do not all describe the same layer. The Day contains the Day Master, the central reference for reading relationships. The Hour adds a more private layer. When it is unknown, a Three-Pillar Chart remains possible, but a responsible tool should not invent the missing pair.
BaZi is more detailed than a Chinese zodiac animal, which uses only the year branch. Two people born in the same zodiac year can have very different charts because their seasonal timing and other pillars differ.
BaZi is not a fixed prediction of fate. It is a symbolic framework for noticing patterns, tensions and changing contexts. Interpretation varies between schools, and no chart can guarantee an event or replace practical judgment. A useful reading creates clearer questions, not certainty about the future.

Questions, answered plainly
Your birth date, birthplace and sex used by the traditional luck-cycle calculation are required. An exact birth time gives the most complete chart, but you can still generate a Three-Pillar Chart if you do not know it.
Choose “I don’t know my birth time.” We show the Year, Month and Day pillars without inventing an Hour Pillar. If that date crosses a solar-term boundary, we ask for a time instead of guessing.
The same clock time can represent a different solar position in another longitude or time zone. Birthplace lets the calculation apply historical time-zone and true-solar-time rules consistently.
The chart is a deterministic result of the stated calendar rules. Different schools can use different day boundaries or correction methods, so this tool states its method rather than claiming universal agreement.
